How the insurance business actually flows

Turning risk into a product — how policies are priced, sold, serviced and claimed. Every session in this track hangs off this one flow, so you always know which part of the business you are looking at.

  1. Product design
  2. Distribution
  3. Underwriting
  4. Policy issuance
  5. Servicing & renewal
  6. Claims

The nine layers of the Insurance domain

Every BDC track answers the same nine questions in the same order, so knowledge from one domain transfers to the next. Here is what each layer looks like in Insurance.

01 · D

Domain

Where are we?

Life, health and general insurers, agents, brokers, bancassurance partners, TPAs, reinsurers and the regulator.

02 · B

Business

How does it make money?

Collect premium, pay claims, invest the float. KPIs: loss ratio, combined ratio, persistency, claim turnaround time.

03 · P

Process

How does the work flow?

Quote → Underwrite → Bind & issue → Endorse → Renew → Claim (FNOL → assess → settle).

04 · S

System

Which applications run it?

Policy administration, rating engine, underwriting workbench, agent portal, billing, claims and document generation.

05 · A

Data

What information matters?

Party, policy, coverage, premium, risk object (vehicle, property, life), claim and reserve.

06 · I

Integration

How do systems talk?

Rating APIs, payment gateway, vehicle and identity verification, TPA and garage networks, reinsurance bordereaux.

07 · X

Transaction

Follow one, end to end.

Motor quote with IDV → Premium rated → Payment → Policy issued → Accident reported (FNOL) → Surveyor report → Cashless claim settled → No-claim bonus reset at renewal

08 · T

Testing

How do we prove it works?

Rating accuracy, back- and future-dated endorsements, renewal batches, document output and claims workflows.

09 · R

Real-world scenario

What happens on a live project?

A mid-term endorsement recalculates premium from policy start instead of the change date, over-charging thousands of customers. Find the date logic gap.

Common questions

What is insurance domain knowledge, and why do QA and BA roles need it?

Turning risk into a product — how policies are priced, sold, serviced and claimed. Collect premium, pay claims, invest the float. KPIs: loss ratio, combined ratio, persistency, claim turnaround time. Without that picture, testers write cases against screens instead of against the business, requirements get read literally, and defects that matter most are the ones nobody thought to look for. This track gives you the business first and the systems second.

What does the Insurance track cover?

Ten sessions following the nine-layer BDC framework: 01 The Insurance Value Chain; 02 How Insurers Make Money; 03 Quote to Claim: The Policy Lifecycle; 04 Insurance Systems Landscape; 05 Insurance Data; 06 Insurance Integrations; 07 Follow One Motor Policy and Its Claim; 08 Testing Insurance Platforms; 09 Real-World: The Endorsement That Over-Charged; closing with the Insurance Certification Assessment.

Is the Insurance training free?
