How the banking business actually flows

Deposits, loans and payments — the systems that move money safely every second. Every session in this track hangs off this one flow, so you always know which part of the business you are looking at.

  1. Customer onboarding
  2. Accounts & deposits
  3. Payments
  4. Lending
  5. Risk & compliance
  6. End-of-day & reporting

The nine layers of the Banking domain

Every BDC track answers the same nine questions in the same order, so knowledge from one domain transfers to the next. Here is what each layer looks like in Banking.

01 · D

Domain

Where are we?

Public, private, cooperative and small finance banks, NBFCs, payment networks and the central bank.

02 · B

Business

How does it make money?

Earn interest margin and fees. KPIs: net interest margin, CASA ratio, NPA %, cost-to-income.

03 · P

Process

How does the work flow?

Onboard (KYC) → Open account → Transact → Lend → Monitor risk → End-of-day close → Report.

04 · S

System

Which applications run it?

Core banking (CBS), internet & mobile banking, loan origination/management, payment switch, cards, AML, data warehouse.

05 · A

Data

What information matters?

Customer (CIF), account, general ledger, transaction, loan schedule, limits and KYC documents.

06 · I

Integration

How do systems talk?

UPI, IMPS, NEFT and RTGS rails, ISO 8583 and ISO 20022 messages, credit bureau APIs, SWIFT.

07 · X

Transaction

Follow one, end to end.

Customer pays ₹2,500 by UPI → PSP app → NPCI switch → Remitter bank debits → Beneficiary bank credits → Confirmation → Settlement & reconciliation

08 · T

Testing

How do we prove it works?

Interest & charges, EOD/BOD batches, date roll, reversals, reconciliation, security and fraud rules.

09 · R

Real-world scenario

What happens on a live project?

A timeout between the switch and core banking debits the customer but never credits the beneficiary. Build the reversal and reconciliation test pack.

Common questions

What is banking domain knowledge, and why do QA and BA roles need it?

Deposits, loans and payments — the systems that move money safely every second. Earn interest margin and fees. KPIs: net interest margin, CASA ratio, NPA %, cost-to-income. Without that picture, testers write cases against screens instead of against the business, requirements get read literally, and defects that matter most are the ones nobody thought to look for. This track gives you the business first and the systems second.
